General Secretariat
The General Secretariat of the Center is the body in charge of the management and administration of arbitration proceedings, as well as the scrutiny of awards. It is also responsible for proposing candidates to the Arbitrator’s Appointment Commission.
The General Secretariat is composed of three teams of lawyers and administrators and is headed by the Secretary General, who is assisted by a Support Committee composed of three Deputy Secretaries.
The Secretary General is appointed by the Plenary, at the proposal of the Chair, for a period of five years. The current Secretary General of CIAM-CIAR is Marta Lalaguna.
During their term of office, the Secretary General, the Deputy Secretaries and the other members of the General Secretariat may not act as arbitrators in any arbitration administered by the Center. Nor may they be appointed when CIAM-CIAR acts as appointing authority.
